City Council Approves Design of Hillside Ave./5th Street Storm Sewer

At the May 1, 2007 regular meeting, City Council approved the commencement of design plans for a gravity storm sewer system for Hillside Avenue and 5th Street. The intersection of these two city streets has been a problematic area for flash flooding to say the least over many years. City Council which approved engineering and design money in the 2007 General Fund for such purpose, has now authorized the Community Development Department to begin the design of gravity storm sewer system that will collect the storm water in a pipe system placed in the center of Hillside Avenue so that the water can be gravity fed and deposited to the south of the City.  Presently the area is drained by a substandard storm line that is too small and contains insufficient slope to carry the storm water runoff away. The system approved for design by City Council is planned to be conceptually large enough to not only rid the intersection of Hillside and 5th from flash flooding, but provide a system that can be tied into from other surrounding areas that need storm water drainage.  This project is scheduled for design by a consultant in the present year, and to begin construction in the summer of 2008.  All construction is contingent on grant funds being approved by the Ohio Public Works Commission, as applied for by the City’s Office of Community/Economic Development this coming fall.
