Annexation & Turn Lane on US 23 Planned (posted 2-6-04)

With the construction of Pride Drive, the Pike Co. YMCA and the Amerihost Hotel in the South end of town, further improvement to the City’s transportation system are required.  Presently any southbound driver on US 23 in Waverly cannot turn left onto Pride Drive nor can a northbound driver turn left into the Amerihost.  These turns are not allowed by the Ohio Department of Transportation (O.D.O.T.) citing public safety standards.  In order to remedy the problem, the City of Waverly is having a survey and title research performed in order to annex this portion of US 23, presently maintained by O.D.O.T.  By annexing the section roadway, the City will be able to construct a center turn lane at the intersection of US 23 and Pride Drive.  Annexation procedures are expected to take place in February of this year, enabling construction of the turn lane to begin in the spring.  The estimated cost of the construction is estimated at $140,000 and will be provided from the Fiscal Year 2003 budget.
