City Presents “Waverly South Connector Project”
 to State’s Transporation
Review Advisory Committee:

In an effort to acquire State Funds towards a proposed major highway project in the City;  Mayor William A.Kelly and Community Development Director Nathan Davis put forward a presentation to the State of Ohio’s Transporation Review Advisory Committee, (TRAC).
The Public Hearing occurred Thursday morning, August 26th at the Comfort Inn in Chillicothe.  The Transportation Review Advisory Committee is made up of several appointed members from around the state who are tasked with reviewing all proposed highway new construction projects in Ohio.  Other presentations from Southern Ohio included the “Chesapeake Bypass” in Lawrence County, Ohio and State Route 207 as proposed by Ross County.

The “Waverly South Connector” was proposed by the City in September of 2002 in order to help alleviate traffic congestion to State Route 220, which is the recent recipient of an estimated 30% Average Daily Traffic Increase due to the construction of the new Waverly City School District on the North West end of the City.  The proposed alignment would also help bolster the local economy, as access to a 300 acre tract of developable property would be presented with prime access.

The project is estimated to cost $8 million, according to R.D.Zande and Associates Inc. in Columbus, Ohio. U.S.  Congressman Rob Portman has proposed a $4.1 million appropriation in a recent US Transportation Bill towards the project.  The City has now submitted an application to the Ohio TRAC in order to request additional funds.
