City Council Approves Beautification Contract (posted 3-5-04)

On Thursday, March 4, 2004, at a regular scheduled meeting of City Council, a construction contract was approved in association with K.C. Landscaping Inc.  The contract calls for the construction of a major entrance feature on the North end of the Corporation Limits,  of Waverly, adjacent to US Highway 23, across from the Atomic Employees Credit Union.  The entrance feature will be a decorative wall made of several large sandstones believed to be from the former Ohio Erie Canal.  The wall will be approximately 7 ft. high x 25 ft. wide and will contain lettering as well as a ceramic version of the Official City Seal. The seal was designed and is being constructed by local artist CarmaMcCreary through a grant from the Ohio Arts Council.  Moderate shrubbery and small trees will be placed around the sandstone wall, while the lettering will display the words, “WAVERLY, FOUNDED 1829”.  Lights powered by the City’s Street Lights adjacent to the highway will illuminate the sign at night.  Funds to pay for the construction will be provided from the City of Waverly Beautification Fund, which is supplied by money received from an Adelphi Cable Co. Franchise Agreement.
